On September 11, 2001, the maritime community answ On September 11, 2001, the maritime community answered the call. As bridges, tunnels and mass transportation closed following the attacks in New York City, hundreds of thousands of people were stranded in Lower Manhattan. Within minutes, New York City Fire Department fireboats rushed to the scene, while the U.S. Coast Guard coordinated a massive maritime evacuation. More than 150 vessels and 600 mariners, including tugboats, ferries and merchant ships, helped evacuate more than 500,000 people and deliver supplies in the days that followed. Coast Guard Commandant James Loy later described the effort as moving more people from the island than the 1940 evacuation of Allied troops from France. Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the first responders and everyday mariners who stepped forward when their city and country needed them most. Their courage, compassion and resilience are part of the enduring spirit of the maritime community. 🚨PROJECT UDPATE🚨 Another major milestone has been 🚨PROJECT UDPATE🚨 Another major milestone has been reached in the redevelopment of the Ventura County Harbor Department headquarters, which will house administrative and Harbor Patrol staff. Phase II, which included marine work, is officially complete! This critical phase included: • Replacing the Harbor Patrol gangway and concrete landing • Installing 265 feet of steel sheet pile wall for seismic protection • Reconstructing the shoreline revetment With this work complete, the site is ready to move into Phase III: construction of the new Harbor Department headquarters. The new two-story facility will house administrative and Harbor Patrol staff and include a community/hearing room to better serve the public. Construction is anticipated to be advertised for bids in September, with construction expected to take approximately 14 months, weather permitting. From a headquarters built in 1968 to a new facility designed for the future, the Harbor is moving forward! 🙌 #channelislandsharbor #ciharbor #oxnard #venturacounty

🍓❤️A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS AT CHANNEL ISLANDS HARBOR! 🍓❤️A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS AT CHANNEL ISLANDS HARBOR! 🍓❤️ Today, August 15, marked a historic moment for Fisherman’s Wharf as the community came together to officially kick off its demolition and revitalization to make way for @karls.oxnard 🍓 From generations of memories along the waterfront to an exciting vision for the future, today we honored where we’ve been while looking ahead to what’s next. The celebration included a community mural, remarks from Karls owner Robert Dahl, local leaders and project partners, a historic charity auction featuring salvaged Fisherman’s Wharf artifacts, and the ceremonial “First Strike” to officially launch the transformation. And the future is big: Fisherman’s Wharf will become the future home of Karls Village, bringing Karls’ first U.S. destination to Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard and creating a new waterfront experience featuring dining, shopping, entertainment, public spaces, and family-friendly attractions. Thank you to everyone who came out to support Karls, the Harbor, and new beginnings.
