Channel Islands Harbor residents and visitors seeking fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and other items at the Channel Islands Harbor Farmers Market as an alternative to grocery stores are in luck.
The market, historically open on Sundays, will now be open on Wednesdays from 1 p.m.to 5 p.m. starting in late October or early November.
The Farmers Market is operated by Raw Inspiration, Inc., a business that operates more than 20 markets throughout Southern California.
Raw Inspiration, Inc. Director of Coordination & Development Melissa Farwell said during the COVID-19 pandemic many patrons have asked that the market be open an additional day so they can avoid going to grocery stores.
“Our patrons know we do everything we can to keep everyone in our community safe and healthy,” Farwell said. “They feel safe in the open-air environment that our market provides.”
Farwell said the market has also implemented a variety of safety measures to provide a positive, safe experience by following the recommendations of the California Department of Public Health, including signage, changing the layout of the market, providing hand washing areas, limiting the amount of customers at one time, and more.
Ventura County Harbor Department Director Mark Sandoval said the Farmers Market will help support local farmers, non-food vendors, residents and visitors who rely on the Farmers Market as an alternative to grocery stores.
“Our Farmers Market is one of the best in Ventura County, and we are happy to add an additional mid-week market to support our local farmers and our residents,” Director Sandoval said.
Raw Inspiration, Inc., operates the Farmers Market through an agreement with the County of Ventura. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the extra day of operation at its September 15, 2020 meeting.
