July 2025 Director’s Message

There’s no better place to celebrate summer than right here at Channel Islands Harbor. We have plenty of great events, activities, and recreational opportunities for everyone to enjoy.

Fourth of July Festivities

This month, we’re proud to host or kick-off some our favorite annual events, starting with Fireworks by the Sea on Friday, July 4. The day will be filled with fun for all ages – from a fun family parade starting at 10:30 a.m. and a lively farmers market to exciting on-the-water adventures and delicious dining offered by our harbor businesses.

The celebration wraps up with a great fireworks show that starts at 9 p.m. sharp. The fireworks are launched from the Navy Base, just east of Victoria Ave. Be sure to find your perfect spot on the Harbor’s waterfront, layout some blankets and chairs, and enjoy the 30-minute show!

Channel Islands Harbor Fine Arts Festival

The excitement of July continues the following weekend with the Channel Islands Fine Arts Festival at Harbor Landing on July 12 and 13. This two-day event will showcase the incredible talents of local and regional artists, offering a great mix of creativity, culture, and coastal charm.

Concerts by the Sea

Also beginning Saturday, July 12, we launch our much-anticipated free Concerts by the Sea summer series. These free Saturday concerts from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Harbor View Park run through the end of August and feature a variety of talented musicians performing in a relaxed, scenic setting by the water. Bring your chairs, food and drinks, your friends, and your dancing shoes!

Tales & Tacos at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum

On July 17, the Channel Islands Maritime Museum will host Tales and Tacos, a unique event celebrating the Harbor’s history and community. The evening will begin with a presentation by local historians and transition into community storytelling, where guests are encouraged to share personal Harbor memories and memorabilia.

Guests will enjoy a fish taco dinner that pays tribute to the original “Fish Fry” that took place during the Harbor’s grand opening in 1965. Those who purchase tickets in advance will receive a limited-edition commemorative pin. This promises to be a meaningful and engaging celebration of the Harbor’s legacy. I want to thank the leadership, staff, and volunteers at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum for being a great partner.

Fisherman’s Wharf Development Update

The California Coastal Commission has recently deemed the Karls development application complete. This is a key milestone in the regulatory process. The next step will be for the project to be scheduled for a public hearing at an upcoming Coastal Commission meeting, which is expected to take place in the next few months. We will continue to coordinate with Coastal Commission staff and keep stakeholders informed as the hearing date approaches.

We’re proud to continue providing opportunities for families and visitors to enjoy all the Channel Islands Harbor has to offer. Thank you for being part of our community!
