June 2025 Director’s Message
As summer kicks off and the weather starts to warm, there’s always renewed energy around Channel Islands Harbor – and plenty to celebrate!
In May, the Ventura County Harbor Department partnered with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and hosted the 15th Annual Channel Islands Harbor Safe Boating Expo and it was a success. From interactive safety demonstrations to hands-on activities for families, the event was a powerful reminder of the importance of preparation and education on the water. Thank you to all our public safety partners, volunteers, and community members who participated and helped us promote safe and responsible boating.
May also marked a historic moment for the Harbor as we were recognized by the Ventura County Board of Supervisors for our 60th Anniversary. This milestone honors six decades of service, community, and maritime tradition here at Channel Islands Harbor. It was heartwarming to see the abundance of support the Harbor received. Check out the video below to watch the presentation:
To commemorate this special year, we’re introducing new and exciting events and are also adding enhancements to existing events that reflect the Harbor’s spirit. Here are the highlights:
Father’s Day Celebration – June 15
The Harbor will be packed on Father’s Day as it hosts two car shows at Harbor View Park and the Channel Islands Maritime Museum.
Channel Islands Harbor Tales & Tacos: Celebrating 60 Years of the Channel Islands Harbor – July 17
This unique event will begin with a presentation by local historians highlighting the harbor’s rich history, followed by a community storytelling session where guests are invited to share Harbor memories and memorabilia from decades past. Attendees will enjoy a delicious fish taco dinner, paying tribute to the original “Fish Fry” held during the harbor’s grand opening celebration in 1965.
Concerts by the Sea – July through August
The beloved summer concert series returns with live music from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. every Saturday from July 12 to Aug. 30, bringing the community together at Harbor View Park.
NEW: Concert on the Sea – September 6
For the first time ever, the Harbor will host a floating concert exclusively for boaters and non-motorized vessels. This unique experience offers music lovers the chance to enjoy live performances right from the water.
Chowderfest Returns – September 14
The Maritime Museum’s popular Chowderfest makes a comeback to honor the Harbor’s 60th anniversary. Guests will enjoy a variety of chowders, local brews, and live entertainment.
NEW Spooky Paddle – October 25: Dress in costume and paddle through a hauntingly fun harbor route. This event will be held on the same day as the Parade of Frights, the non-competitive Halloween boat parade.
6th Annual Channel Islands Harbor Food & Toy Drive – Dec. 6: The Harbor Department will be teaming up with the Harbor & Beach Community Alliance and hosting the 6th Annual Harbor Food & Toy Drive. The Holiday Food & Toy Drive will benefit Food Share of Ventura County and the Spark of Love Toy Drive, an annual effort coordinated by local fire departments which provide toys to thousands of children each year.
NEW Reindeer Paddle – December 13: Embrace the holiday spirit with a festive paddle event for all ages. This event will be held the same day as the Parade of Lights, the Harbor’s holiday boat parade.
Snow play Returns to Parade of Lights Daytime Festivities – December 13
The daytime festivities of the annual Parade of Lights will once again include a snow play area for children, adding wintery fun to the Harbor’s traditional holiday celebration.
It’s an exciting time to be part of the Channel Islands Harbor community. Thank you for helping us celebrate the past, present, and future of this incredible place. We look forward to seeing you at the Harbor this summer!
