September 2025 Director’s Message
We are feeling endless summer vibes at the Channel Islands Harbor! September is shaping up to be one of the busiest and most exciting months of the year, with perfect warm weather, blue skies, and a packed calendar of fun events. It’s the ideal time to visit and enjoy everything we have in store.
September Events
We’re kicking things off from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 6th at the Harbor turning basin with our first-ever Concert on the Sea. As part of the Harbor’s 60th Anniversary celebrations, the classic rock band Once More will perform live from the deck of the Estella sportfishing boat, which is generously being provided by Fish With the Finest. Boaters and paddlers will have the chance to enjoy a one-of-a-kind concert right on the water, creating an unforgettable Harbor experience.
On Sunday, September 14th, Chowderfest returns to the Channel Islands Maritime Museum. We have partnered with the Channel Islands Maritime Museum to bring back this event to help celebrate our 60th Anniversary. This ticketed event not only offers incredible chowders and food from more than a dozen local restaurants but also supports a beloved community treasure. Be sure to purchase your tickets now!
Later in the month on September 21st, classic car enthusiasts won’t want to miss the 2025 Central Coast British Car Club Show, a tradition that draws car lovers from across the region. Admission is free for spectators, making it the perfect way to spend a relaxing day by the water. In addition to the great lineup of cars, the show will feature food trucks, local vendors, and live music from a DJ, creating a lively atmosphere for all ages. This free event will be held at Harbor View Park.
As we celebrate 60 years of the Channel Islands Harbor, I want to extend thanks to our community, businesses, and visitors who have supported and enjoyed the Harbor this year and over the decades. Your passion and involvement are what make this place special. And we’re not done yet — the Harbor Department has more 60th Anniversary events and activities planned as the year goes on, so stay tuned for even more opportunities to celebrate this milestone together.
Development Updates
The Harbor Department and community are celebrating a major milestone for the Harbor’s future. The California Coastal Commission has approved Karls Village project at Fisherman’s Wharf. The project will follow Karls’ signature village model, blending playful design with engaging experiences, and will be tailored to include nautical features that reflect the Harbor’s coastal identity. Planned elements include a market style building, restaurants, family entertainment areas, a café and bakery, and recreational amenities that celebrate the region’s maritime and agricultural culture.
Next steps for the project include securing building permits through the City of Oxnard and beginning pre-construction work. The Harbor Department and Karls will continue engaging with the community as the project moves forward.
To commemorate this milestone, a muralist is adding art, including the Karls logo, on the Wharf’s lighthouse, a symbol of what’s to come as Karls plans to open in 2028.
Finally, I’m pleased to share that the Harbor Department will be making an important safety improvement at Kiddie Beach. A new railing will soon be installed along the seawall, extending from the south end of the wall to the staircase where visitors walk down to the beach. This project will improve safety for families and visitors while maintaining charm and accessibility.
Seasonal Lifeguards on Duty
I’d also like to take a moment to recognize our seasonal lifeguards, who will be providing coverage until September 1 at Silver Strand, Hollywood, and Kiddie beaches. Their dedication ensures the safety of residents and visitors, and we are grateful for their service throughout the busy summer season.
As you can see, September is shaping up to be a month full of celebration, progress, and community connection. I invite you to come down, enjoy the events, and see firsthand the exciting future unfolding here at the Channel Islands Harbor.
