Tall Ships to Visit Channel Islands Harbor in February

Tall Ships to Visit Channel Islands Harbor in February 2018

Two majestic tall ships based out of Grays Harbor, Washington will be docking at the Channel Islands Harbor from Feb. 6-13, 2018. The Lady Washington, a replica of the first American ship to round Cape Horn and land in the Pacific Northwest and the Hawaiian Chieftain, a replica of a sailing vessel that ran the trading routes in the 1800s, will be open for walk-on tours, battle and adventure sails, and a passage cruise to Ventura Harbor. A crew of 10-14 people will be on board both vessels to answer questions and tell you what you need to know about these beauties.

Visiting these tall ships, docked near the Ventura County Harbor Patrol offices, is a perfect way to spend a few hours with your friends and family.

Vessel Tours

Walk-on tours allow visitors to meet with crews, similar to an open house, and learn more about the ships’ history. (Fun fact: the Lady Washington has appeared in several motion pictures!) Reservations are not required, though a $5 donation per person is requested.

Adventure Sail

Adventure sails are two-hour family-oriented experiences with an opportunity to help the crew raise a sail, learn a sea shanty, and take the helm of a real tall ship, conditions permitting. Tickets are $47 for adults, $39 for children 12 years-old and younger. To purchase in advance, click here or call 1-800-200-5239.

Battle Sail

The three-hour battle sail features booming cannons, close-quarter maneuvers, and a taste of 18th century maritime life aboard tall ships. A ticket is required for all passengers. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Passage

Also called a “transit,” a passage is a one-way voyage from port A to port B. In this case, if you are feeling adventurous, the ships will leave the Channel Islands Harbor to Ventura Harbor on Tuesday, Feb. 13th. Commute to Oxnard to Ventura in style!

Find the Ships

The tall ships will be docked by the Ventura County Harbor Patrol offices, located at 3900 Pelican Way, Oxnard, CA 93035.
