2025 California Coastal Cleanup Day – Channel Islands Harbor

This year’s California Coastal Cleanup Day is making a big splash right here at Channel Islands Harbor.

On Saturday, September 20th, from 9 a.m. to noon, volunteers can meet at three harbor locations and help keep our waters and shoreline clean. Whether you arrive by car, bike, or even by boat, you’ll find a way to lend a hand.

There’s a twist to this year’s cleanup. There’s a scavenger hunt, or “Trashure Hunt”, component to the day. Special “trash” items will be hidden at cleanup sites. If you’re lucky enough to find one, you can redeem it for valuable prizes, according to the California Coastal Commission.

Here are the harbor’s three meetup spots:

  • Channel Islands Boating Center (3880 Bluefin Circle) – Help clean up along the waterfront and learn more about local boating and ocean safety.
  • Silver Strand Beach Main Parking Lot – Roll up your sleeves at one of Ventura County’s most popular stretches of sand.
  • Peninsula Yacht Marina (3700 Peninsula Road) – Hosted by the Fairwind Yacht Club, this site is a perfect spot for boaters and marina-goers to join the effort.

No matter which site you choose, you’ll be part of an important movement to reduce trash, protect marine life, and protect our coastal community.

What You Need to Know

  • No pre-registration required – Just show up ready to pitch in.
  • Waivers are a must – Save time by filling one out ahead of time (available by visiting this link).
  • Family-friendly – Kids are welcome but must be with a parent or guardian.
  • Dress smart – Closed-toed shoes, hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses will be your best friends.
  • BYOB – That’s “Bring Your Own Bucket” (plus gloves and a refillable water bottle). We’ll provide extras if you need them.

Why It Matters

From bottle caps in the sand to fishing line along the docks, every piece of trash you collect helps keep our harbor healthy and thriving. Imagine enjoying a sunset paddle, a weekend at the marina, or a stroll down the beach knowing you’ve helped protect this place for everyone who loves it.
