AdventureSail Day 2026 – Girls on the Great Blue Sea
The Channel Islands Women’s Sailing Association (CIWSA) is proud to host the 5th Annual AdventureSail® Day on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
In partnership with Channel Islands Yacht Club (CIYC), Channel Islands Maritime Museum (CIMM), the Tall Ship MYSTIC WHALER (Mystic Ocean Adventures), and many dedicated community volunteers, this special event offers a full day of maritime education, sailing, and inspiration centered around the theme: “Girls on the Great Blue Sea.”
AdventureSail® Day is a free program for up to 40 Ventura County girls ages 9–14 who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience sailing and life on the water. Many past participants had rarely visited the ocean, and most had never stepped aboard a sailboat before attending AdventureSail® Day. Each participant may bring an accompanying adult if desired.
Inspiring the Next Generation
The goal of AdventureSail® Day is to introduce young girls to the excitement of sailing while connecting them with female role models in the maritime and marine science industries. Throughout the day, participants will learn about:
- The history of women in sailing
- Teamwork and chain of command aboard a tall ship
- Wind awareness and basic sailing skills
- Environmental stewardship
- Opportunities for continued sailing education
- Maritime and marine science career pathways
A Day of Discovery on the Water
Upon arrival Saturday morning, each participant will receive a commemorative AdventureSail® T-shirt, sailing-themed swag, and a goody bag.
Girls will rotate through three interactive morning programs hosted by:
- Channel Islands Maritime Museum
- Tall Ship MYSTIC WHALER
- Channel Islands Yacht Club
In the afternoon, participants will put their new skills into action and experience sailing firsthand. Most girls will sail aboard the harbor’s resident tall ship, MYSTIC WHALER, while others will sail aboard private sailboats generously provided by volunteer skippers and crews.
Following the sailing experience, Channel Islands Yacht Club will host a buffet lunch, including a group debrief and information about future sailing opportunities. Throughout the day, participants will meet women recreational sailors and professionals working in marine, environmental, and science-related fields.
One lucky participant will also receive a Sailing Scholarship to attend the sailing school of her choice.
