June 2026 Director’s Message
It’s the start of summer and the Channel Islands Harbor is bringing energy, progress, and excitement.
In May, we welcomed hundreds of visitors, families, and boating enthusiasts to another successful annual Exposición de navegación segura. From hands-on safety demonstrations and vessel tours to educational exhibits and community partnerships, the event showcased the Harbor’s strong commitment to safe and enjoyable recreation on the water. Thank you to our Harbor Department team, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, exhibitors, volunteers, organizations who donated raffle prizes, and everyone who participated in making the event a success.
June also brings several opportunities for families to enjoy the harbor together, including Father’s Day festivities throughout the waterfront. Visitors can enjoy classic car displays at the annual Exhibición de autos del día del padre del puerto de las Islas del Canal at Harbor View Park as well as a special car show, Classics by the Sea, hosted at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum. These car shows are nothing short of spectacular and offer another great reason to spend the day exploring the harbor.
Actualizaciones de desarrollo portuario
Momentum continues throughout the harbor with several major projects moving forward.
At the future site of Karls Village, another visible step toward redevelopment is now underway with the current installation of a custom temporary wooden fence surrounding the future project site at Fisherman’s Wharf. Unlike the chain-link fencing commonly associated with construction zones, the Karls team is creating a more welcoming visual experience by installing a wooden barrier that will soon be painted green and enhanced with coastal-themed artwork developed in partnership with local muralists. Demolition of the existing Fisherman’s Wharf buildings is expected to begin in August, while the few remaining businesses close or continue relocation efforts through the summer. Hopper Boat Rentals will remain open during construction as this transformational project continues moving forward.
We also officially launched Phase II of the Harbor Headquarters redevelopment project in May. This phase includes major marine infrastructure improvements, including replacement of the Harbor Patrol gangway and landing, installation of 265 feet of steel sheet pile wall for seismic protection, and reconstruction of the shoreline revetment. The work is expected to be completed this fall and marks another important step toward delivering a modern headquarters that will support Harbor operations, Harbor Patrol, and a future community and hearing room designed to better serve the public.
Fireworks by the Sea & Family Parade
As we head into July, we invite the community to celebrate Independence Day at the harbor. Fireworks by the Sea returns on July 4th with one of the region’s premier waterfront fireworks displays. Registration is also now open for the annual 4th of July Family Parade, a harbor tradition that brings together decorated bikes, wagons, strollers, and plenty of patriotic spirit.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the harbor this summer.
