Ventura County Harbor Department Seeks Feedback About New Playground at Channel Islands Harbor

A draft concept for a new .25-acre playground at Harbor View Park at the Channel Islands Harbor is complete.

Ventura County residents and visitors are encouraged to provide feedback about the design and features of the playground.

Ventura County Harbor Department Director Michael Tripp said he and staff will be available to take in-person comments from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10 at a booth at the Channel Islands Harbor Farmer’s Market, located at 3600 Harbor Blvd. Oxnard, CA 93035. Interested parties can also submit comments via email to CIHarborVisitors@ventura.org

Features in the draft concept for the playground include entry monument signage, a climbable octopus (‘kraken’) play feature, pirate ship, climbing net, spiral slide, rubber play surfacing, concrete picnic tables, a nature-inspired swing set, shade sails, and new concrete paths.

“We couldn’t be more excited to add another landside visitor-serving amenity to the Channel Islands Harbor, especially for young families,” Director Tripp said. “This playground isn’t just about swings and slides; it’s about coming down to the harbor and making memories that last a lifetime. What better way to make sure it’s a playground for everyone than by involving the community?”

Director Tripp said construction of the playground will begin in the next 12-18 months. The Harbor Department must seek approvals from various government agencies. The construction of the playground will be funded by the Harbor Department.
