This past Sunday, boats with @islandpackers and @channelislandswhalewatching, identified a pair of humpback whales who put on a show. Check out this video of a younger whale breaching right off the bow of @islandpackers Vanguard vessel! Last Friday, we were on our way to the outer islands and saw two Humpbacks playing with a piece of kelp. This is a good sign because it means the whales are not actively feeding but rather in a socializing mood. As soon as we stopped the Zodiac near them, they came over to investigate us non-stop! We were barely able to sneak away from these cuddly 40,000 pound cuties to resume our quest for Orcas. Well, if you’re been looking for a chance to re-establish your relationship with Humpbacks we have that opportunity this Saturday. An 8 hour humpback trip is live for Oxnard departure. The Channel Islands Harbor community came together The Channel Islands Harbor community came together yesterday to celebrate the life of Captain Jane Thomas, a respected and passionate member of our local sailing community. Dozens of boaters gathered off the coast for the ceremony in her honor. Captain Jane was a U.S. Coast Guard 50-ton licensed captain, co-founder of Channel Islands Women’s Sailing Association, and a dedicated competitor who raced her sloop Wailani. Her leadership, generosity, and love for the water made a lasting impact on Channel Islands Harbor and the many people who had the privilege of sailing alongside her. She was deeply committed to supporting the next generation of sailors. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and the members of the broader sailing community. Fair winds and following seas, Captain Jane. ❤️
