4/23/26 UPDATE: Registration for the 2026 Ventura County Jr. Lifeguard Program is full.
Summer is almost here, and what better way for kids to spend their days than by having fun in the sun at Silver Strand Beach, learning life-saving skills, and getting the inside scoop on ocean safety? The Ventura County Junior Lifeguard Program offers just that and so much more!
Sponsored by the Ventura County Harbor Department, this program is a perfect mix of adventure, learning, and personal growth for kids aged 8 to 15. If you’re looking for a fun and rewarding summer experience, here’s why you should sign up today.
Learn Life-Saving Skills
The Junior Lifeguard Program isn’t just about swimming and running drills. The program is about gaining real-life, hands-on skills that could make a difference in an emergency. Participants will learn lifeguard rescue techniques, emergency medical first aid, and ocean safety, all while being trained by experienced lifeguards. These skills could potentially save lives in the future!
Plus, let’s be honest: who wouldn’t feel like a hero after mastering rescue techniques or learning how to handle an emergency?
Get in Shape and Stay Active
Being a Junior Lifeguard means staying active every single day. Whether you’re swimming in the ocean, running along the beach, or participating in various fitness challenges, the program keeps kids on their toes. It’s a fun way to get fit, build endurance, and develop strength, all while being outside and making memories with new friends.
Boost Confidence and Teamwork
One of the best parts of the program is the sense of teamwork and camaraderie. As participants learn how to work together in different scenarios – whether it’s a mock rescue or group fitness drills – they build lasting friendships and learn valuable social skills. The program also encourages personal growth and confidence, which helps kids feel more self-assured, both in the water and beyond.
Become an Ocean Safety Expert
Ventura County’s coastline is beautiful, but it can also be unpredictable. The Junior Lifeguard Program teaches participants how to navigate the ocean safely and how to spot potential hazards before they become dangerous. Knowing the dos and don’ts of ocean safety isn’t just useful for lifeguards, it’s important for anyone who loves the water. Whether your child is a seasoned swimmer or a beginner, they’ll leave the program with the knowledge to enjoy the ocean safely.
A Summer Full of Fun!
Let’s not forget that the Junior Lifeguard Program is designed to be a blast from start to finish! Kids get to spend their summer days at the beach, playing games, swimming, and making memories with new friends. Plus, they’ll gain a sense of pride knowing they’re helping to preserve the beautiful coastal environment they love.
A Glimpse into Lifeguard Careers
For those who dream of one day becoming a lifeguard, this is the perfect opportunity to get a head start. The Junior Lifeguard Program is an excellent stepping stone for anyone considering a future in lifeguarding or emergency services. Not only will kids get a taste of what it’s like to be on the front lines of beach safety, but they’ll also gain a deeper appreciation for the responsibilities and challenges that come with the job.
