On this Throwback Thursday, it’s the perfect tim On this Throwback Thursday, it’s the perfect time to look at the history of our 4th of July Family Parade.

The first parade, organized by local realtor Susan O’Brien, was held at Silver Strand Beach in 2006. (O’Brien and her team of volunteers have been assisting the Harbor Department with day of operations for the last few years!)

The first parade saw families lining up on San Nicholas Ave. with decorated bikes, wagons, and strollers - all showing off their red, white, and blue spirit. As the tradition caught on, the parade moved closer to Harbor Landing off Harbor Bvld. on the west side of the Harbor, taking over the parking lot with patriotic pride.

Today, the parade stretches down Harbor Blvd. from Albacore Way to Cabezone Circle, filled with pedestrians, cyclists, golf carts, a few cars, and generations of families making memories.

From humble beginnings to a great community tradition — we’re proud to celebrate freedom, family, and fun every Fourth! If you plan to participate this year, be sure to fill out our registration form at channelislandsharbor.org ❤️🤍💙 #channelislandsharbor #visitoxnard #vccvibes #ciharbor #oxnard #venturacounty #harborlife #harborgoals #805 #4thofjuly #parade

For #ThrowbackThursday, let’s rewind to 1972, wh For #ThrowbackThursday, let’s rewind to 1972, when local developer Bud Smith brought two iconic landmarks to life at the Harbor — the Lobster Trap Restaurant and Casa Sirena Hotel. Nestled right on the water, the Lobster Trap quickly became a beloved spot for fresh seafood, a great happy hour, Sunday brunch, harbor views, and unforgettable nights with family and friends. If you looked just outside the restaurant, chances are you’d spot Bud’s famous boat, the Dry Martini, docked right out front! Here’s to the memories, the meals, and the magic of a place that helped shape our waterfront community. Do you remember your favorite dish at the Lobster Trap? Share your story in the comments!
